Meredith Henderson’s Story
Through my position on the Deaf Catalyst Team, I work alongside Deaf leaders on our team, as well as leaders in other Deaf mission and Deaf Bible translation organizations. The time has come to stop doing ministry “for the Deaf” and instead do ministry “alongside the Deaf.” Our desire is to empower Deaf leaders by equipping them with the tools they need to evangelize and disciple Deaf people within their own spheres of influence. Some Deaf leaders are already reaching out to minister to Deaf people in other countries!
I have the privilege of discipling younger Deaf and hearing women. And I serve as an interpreter, as needed, in meetings and conferences. We want to ensure that Deaf people are able to have their voices heard, their perspectives valued, and have full access to information.
The ultimate goal is to see an effective Gospel movement among Deaf people worldwide. Of the estimated 70 million Deaf people around the world, only about 2% are Christians. This means that, collectively, Deaf people represent one of the largest unreached people groups in the world. There is much work to be done, and I am excited to be part of what the Lord is doing to call Deaf people to Himself—both individually and as a people group.
